Most of you know what a huge Packer's fan my dad is. So, after learning about my diagnosis, he went straight to Deanna Favre's website. She, too, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35. The next day, Julie bought her book for me. So, I guess from the beginning of this whole fiasco, I'm treating it like Deanna is- a game. The first quarter whistle is blowing....
I go to have my port put in tomorrow (Wednesday). It's a procedure in which I receive a little valve right under my clavicle. That way, they don't have to poke and prod me everytime as chemo is delivered and blood checks afterwards (to ensure white blood cell counts are high). Then if all goes as planned, I will begin chemotherapy on Friday. My cocktail includes adriamicin and cytoxin- common for BC.
For the skeptics or overly concerned, we have had our 2nd opinion through M.D. Anderson- Dr. Peter Dempsey. He concurs with all the treament protocol and test results from the pathology report to the MRI report. That's a huge sigh of relief from Dave and myself. So for now, we have home field advantage at Good Shepherd with my oncologist, Dr. Weyburn.
Keep your pom pons at bay.
